Has the censor board become particularly cautious after the controversies that surrounded the movie Adipurush?
Is India not ready to get their God portrayed on the big screen?
Is the Censor board just overanalyzing stuff and being ridiculous?
‘OMG 2’ sequel to the legendary movie ‘OMG: Oh My God!’ hits the theatres on 11th August 2023 starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam.
The filmmakers have put in a lot of effort and a budget of 150 crores to revive Indian’s love for their favourite movie OMG once again. ‘OMG: Oh My God!’ starred Akshay Kumar and Paresh Raval and was a blockbuster movie with a total box office collection of 123 Crores. The film highlighted Indian God Krishna in a different yet exciting way and the audience loved it.
After the recent backlash received by the movie ‘ Adipurush’ due its unique portrayal of Ramayan, the Censor board is being extremely cautious in giving movies related to gods a green flag. Earlier in the month, the review committee tagged the film as a ‘ preemptive measure’. Currently the Censor board with holds the release of the movie labelling it as ‘ Slightly Controversial’. The Movie’s Co-Producer and Viacom’s COO has also been extremely silent about the situation.
This isn’t the first time that the censor board has acted a little too cautiously in the release of a movie. Be it ‘Kashmir Files’ or ‘ Kerala Story’ the censor board has been precautious. Kerala Story took two months and over 200 documents to get the clearance, told the Movie Director Sudipto Sen.
With such less time left for the release, the film needs heavy marketing to spread its awareness among the audience. The filmmakers have devised a ten-day intensive marketing plan and are just waiting for clearance. While people are sure that the movie will get a clearance, there have been some tensions regarding the postponement of the release date.
The movie ‘OMG: Oh My God!’ has been a part of the childhood of many, whether it was Akshay Kumar’s acting or Paresh Raval’s sense of humor the audience loved the movie. The movie involving a direct court case on god and highlighting the corruption in one’s own religion raised the awareness of many people in India. The movie highlighted the journey of a man from atheism to become a true believer and not an illusioned one. A sequel to that movie has raised the interest of many people and everyone is waiting for the big release. Saying all this the movie can be a little controversial but it can so happen too that the censor board is just being a little too precautious.
In the end I ask everyone Kya Vo Neelkanth Gangadhar Shiv Shambhu Bhole Baba ye film banne dete agar usse unka hi apmaan ho rha ho?
